I
originally became interested in the
field of hypnosis as a student
studying psychology and then later I
returned to it when I was working in
professional politics. It seemed
clear to me that a politician could
present the exact same argument in
many different ways, and some of
those ways would be greeted with
great enthusiasm while other ways
would be harshly rejected. As a
speechwriter, I studied the language
in thousands of speeches and began
to notice more and more that the
most persuasive politicians use many
of the same language patterns that
hypnotists use, and I became
curious about that.
I went
back to learn more about hypnotic
language and I originally learnt
from Paul McKenna in 1997. Since
then I have also studied Ericksonian
Hypnosis with four of Milton
Erickson's original students and I
have trained extensively with other
teachers in the UK and around the
world. I have studied with both the
co-creators of Neuro-Linguistic
Programming (NLP) as well, Richard
Bandler and John Grinder, and I am
licensed as a master practitioner,
advanced therapeutic specialist and
trainer through the Society of NLP.
As the
years have passed, I have moved away
from political work and now focus on
running great
events
and working one-to-one with
people who want to
make changes in their life.
I use NLP as a foundation for my
work because I think it's an
extremely good way to understand the
structure of how people are thinking
and how they could do things
differently. I don't believe NLP is
the answer to everything though. As
often as not, I combine a variety of
approaches at the same time. I am
licensed as a hypnotherapist and
trained as a coach as well, and I
have studied a number of related
fields,
including Provocative Therapy (with
its creator, Frank Farrelly), Self
Relations Psychotherapy (with its
creator, Dr Stephen Gilligan), basic
neurology and neuro-toxicity,
Feldenkrais bodywork and physical
change, meditation, Native American
and Mexican shamanic traditions,
energy and energy healing. I
continue to train and explore new
ideas.
